About Joy Pate, LCSW
Hey there! Welcome to my page. I recognize the courage it takes to begin the search for a therapist and I’d be happy to help confirm if I’m the right fit for you. I have learned to live a life of freedom and peace and it’s my desire to help trailblazing women like yourself break the cycles that are keeping them from doing the same.
My Approach & Outlook
My journey into the helping profession started as I struggled to navigate the challenges and stressors life brings in early adulthood. The overwhelming stress and anxiety began to impact my mental health and how I viewed myself. In navigating these challenges, I felt alone, misunderstood and helpless. Through my own journey with therapy, I gained relief and the tools to understand how my own over-functioning was holding me back. I see you, understand you and I’m committed to helping you get to the other side. In therapy, we will work on identifying core beliefs that shape the way you perceive yourself and the world. Negative core beliefs often develop as a result of traumatic stressful events that occur in both childhood and adulthood. Using a social justice lens we will acknowledge the way your identity also informs the way you show up in the world. My therapeutic style would be characterized as supportive, collaborative and empowering. Through open ended questions and exploration you will be challenged to think critically about the root of your present reality and how we can shift the things that drive you. In this therapeutic journey I have witnessed women feeling empowered, connected with themselves and confident.
